On September 26th, members of the SMILE MSCA-DN network will take part in the European Researchers’ Night at CaixaForum Palma (Mallorca, Spain), joining hundreds of events across Europe designed to bring science closer to society. Our team will contribute with interactive workshops and talks that combine research, reflection, and a touch of humor.
📍 Venue: CaixaForum Palma – Sala Alexandre Rosselló
👥 Audience: Families (afternoon sessions) and adults (evening show)
Family Workshop: Why are there no rivers in Mallorca?
17:30 (Catalan) & 18:30 (Spanish)
Led by Anna Aguiló, Víctor Vilarrasa Riaño, and Rotman Criollo Manjarrez (IMEDEA-UIB-CSIC).
In the Balearic Islands, permanent rivers do not exist. Rainwater infiltrates underground and is stored in aquifers, which act like natural sponges, slowly releasing water and enabling the formation of valuable wetlands. This interactive workshop will explore how water infiltrates and is stored in rocks, why groundwater is essential for life in the Balearics, and the challenges and threats it faces today. Families will engage through hands-on experiments, critical thinking, and science.
Late Show: Research on Stage
20:00 – 21:00 (in Catalan)
For the evening session, aimed at an adult audience, science meets entertainment. The show will feature dynamic micro-talks with researchers from the local community, blending scientific insight with humor. Among the highlights: “What if the solution to climate change lies beneath our feet?” by Víctor Vilarrasa Riaño (IMEDEA-UIB-CSIC).
The European Researchers’ Night is a unique opportunity to meet scientists working in your community, discover their research, and enjoy science in an engaging and accessible format. We look forward to seeing you at CaixaForum Palma!
